First Steps

In today's often overcrowded world, being the first one to step through a virgin landscape. One of the many little pleasures that winter offers us.

Water Spring

Fresh and clean water flowing freely day and night, an impossible dream for many, a mere visual ornament for others.

Muschrooms Season

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.

City in Pink

A nice visual way of spending a fall evening. A composition of shots made in Thun, Switzerland, last Saturday evening. The colors were not modified.

Blankenberge Piers

At the entrance of the Marina there are two long arms that strecht to meet the north sea. Powerful waves shacked the entire structure and could be easily felt through our feet. Another way nature can remind us that we are not alone on ship earth.

New Generation

Here goes another generation growing up along with computers and internet from day 1. How will they use it? No one knows for sure but the traditional medias being CD&DVD, TV, radio and printed will keep undergoing deep structural changes. I feel they have not been far enough yet.

Ghost Truck

No, no accident took place. Just a smart piece of software that decided to merge two of my pictures. In the distance, you will notice the humble hills of Tel Bia.

Ceiling Detail in the Aleppo Citadel

The Citadel of Aleppo is the most prominent historic architectural site in Aleppo. It was recognized as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. Its majestic stature forms the center of the city; in fact the city wraps around it extending a spider-like infrastructural web of streets forming the city's organic urban form.

The surrounding area is otherwise as flat as possible. One can read that this hill is possibly the result of several thousands years of past civilizations building on top of each other but there are also other explications.

Sharing the View

With such a nice view, she had to share it with her two furry little friends... and then I had to bring it up here ;-)

Abandoned Patterns

About 2 km away from the center of Ar Raqqah, on the other side of the Euphrates not too far from the small bridge, located on a small plateau about 60 meters above the Euphrates valley I have found what seems to be an abandoned village where most of the houses had inside delicate visual patterns. I have gathered them on the picture here above.

Considering the mud-brick construction method used for the majority of the maisonettes it must be from recent history, I would assume a maximum of 50-150 years old.

Despite having asked and showed the pictures to local dwellers, no one could tell me more about it. If you have a clue please leave me a comment. I wonder why one would choose such a dry location when, 200 meters down from there, there is an easy access to the Euphrates' water.

More pictures I have shot from this mysterious site are here.

I have not found enough time to google that out but will update the post as soon as I know it. Anyone? Please enlight me with a comment.
In case you are wondering that thing points skywards in the middle of the Umayya mosque courtyard in Damascus.

Another Trip to Syria

I had the chance and pleasure to go back to Syria, this time carrying a wide angle zoom along (as the picture above shows it).

On my web site there is already a selection of pictures I have made in and around Damascus. Much more to come as I find the time for it.

Meanwhile, those first pictures are here, enjoy!

Where has the winter gone?

Of course it is a lovely scenery, of course the temperature is mild and very enjoyable at this time of the year, of course the sun rays are friendly.... But hey! This is January 11th in Switzerland just a few couple kilometers away of the Bernese Alps. That lake of Thun could be frozen.

Is this global warming? Some say yes. Do you care? I do.
